Posting a video on Facebook with a song that you do not own the rights to is the easiest way to get it taken down. To decrease the amount of videos getting taken down for this reason, Facebook has been working toward licensing deals with music labels. Warner Music Group has signed a deal with Facebook that will allow their recorded music and published catalogs to be used in videos and messages on Facebook's site.
This means that fans of the label's music will be able to use their favourite artist's music in the video's that they upload to the site. Wouldn't you love to be able to use your favourite songs in videos as you please?
This deal wraps up Facebook's latest group of music label signings. In a statement on WMG's website, Ole Obermann, Chief Digital Officer at Warner Music Group, said this of the partnership: “Our partnership with Facebook will help expand the universe of music streaming and create supplementary revenue for artists. Fan-created video is one of the most personal, social and often viral ways that music is enjoyed, but its commercial potential is largely untapped. This collaboration will lead to new possibilities for our artists, while enhancing the user experience across Facebook, Instagram and Oculus, and enabling people to communicate and express themselves using the music they love.”
We still do not know a lot of the details, we are pretty stoked about this deal. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below.
