This week on our "Introducing" series, we are featuring Bad Mary. Bad Mary is an old school rock band with a modern vibe attached, from New York. Their biggest inspirations include Ramones, Blondie, and early Joan Jett.
So, where did Bad Mary come from? The band formed in 2009 when their guitar/bass player David put the band together for an end of semester party at Hofstra University where he teaches. The band decided to stick together and stay together even when they graduated. Their first lineup was Amanda on vocals, Rory Levin on drums and Mike, David and Andrew trading off guitar and bass. Although, Andrew and Rory had to leave the band unfortunately, therefore, Amanda's dad bill got called into the band and settles on guitar. In the beginning, the band performed covers only: stuff like Billy Jean, Hot Stuff, and Call Me. They named their band Madame-X after a painting that David liked and played bars and parties in NYC and out on Long Island.

When 2011 came around, they started writing their own music. When they played live they would sneak in some originals here and there. Once they started writing originals, they couldn't stop and they kept writing more and more. One they started becoming more known, they realized that Madame-X was the name of a really popular film in the Philippines, an 80s metal band, a club in New York and other things too. Before they released any original music, they came up with a new name for the band, Bad Mary.
